What is a cloud session identifier?

A cloud session identifier is a value used by the service to distinguish one authenticated session from another.

It may help connect login, access and account activity across several records.

What this means in practice

A session may move between networks, continue for days or be used through several related tokens. A stolen session may also be reused by an attacker.

Equally, two sessions may appear similar if they use the same account and device.

Where the provider offers correlation IDs, token IDs or request IDs, preserve them as well. They may link events that the ordinary interface displays separately.

Some providers expose a clear session ID. Others use several identifiers across authentication, audit and application logs.

Investigators should preserve the exact identifier, event source, account, application, device or browser information, IP addresses and relevant times.

A session identifier can strengthen reconstruction, but it still needs corroboration from device and wider evidence before personal attribution.
