Does removal from a leak site prove the data was deleted?¶

No. Removal changes public availability at one location. Copies may remain with operators, affiliates, purchasers, mirrors, private channels or third parties who downloaded them.

Preserve the publication lifecycle¶

Retain the original listing, samples, publication and removal times, negotiation sequence and any deletion promise. Removal may follow payment, enforcement, failure, maintenance or tactical choice; the timing helps explain the extortion process without proving destruction.

Search caches, archives and third-party reporting may preserve independent republications. Distinguish those from material still hosted by the original site.

Report assurances as representations¶

An offender's promise is difficult to verify technically. Preserve its exact wording and conditions, but do not state data was destroyed without independent evidence.

Risk assessment should consider how many parties may have obtained the data and whether download evidence exists. Public disappearance can reduce exposure at that address while disclosure risk continues elsewhere.
