Should I enable flight mode?¶

Flight mode may reduce some wireless communication, but it is not a universal isolation method.

Evidential caution: that flight mode disables every connection. Depending on the device, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, near-field communication or other radios may remain active or may be re-enabled separately.

What this means¶

Enabling flight mode also requires interaction with the device. That interaction may change settings, create logs, reveal notifications or affect the current application.

Before considering it, record the screen, network indicators, mobile signal, Wi-Fi status, Bluetooth status and any active session.

Assess why isolation is needed. If the concern is remote wiping, continued messaging, malware communication or another specific risk, determine whether flight mode addresses the relevant connection route.

Consider whether enabling flight mode will interrupt useful cloud data, terminate a remote session or prevent a provider-held event from completing.

Where the device is unlocked, encrypted or evidentially significant, seek specialist advice before changing connectivity.

What to check or do next¶

• Do not rely solely on the flight-mode symbol. Check whether other connection indicators remain, but avoid unnecessary navigation.
• If flight mode is used, document the exact steps, the time, who performed them and which indicators changed.
• Do not reconnect the device later without considering whether pending commands or synchronisation may occur.
• Record any unexpected result, such as Wi-Fi remaining active, Bluetooth reconnecting or an application changing state.

Evidential limits¶

Be alert to eSIMs, multiple SIMs, tethering, cables and docking stations. Flight mode may not affect them all.
