Could immediate disconnection destroy visibility of the attacker?

Yes. Immediate disconnection can remove the live evidence that shows what an attacker is doing.

Avoid this assumption: Containment and visibility can always be achieved at the same time. Ending connectivity may terminate remote sessions, command channels, active processes and network traffic that specialists could otherwise observe.

The attacker may disappear from the visible system and switch to another route.

Network logs, memory evidence, session identifiers and command activity may also become harder to preserve after disconnection.

Before action, record the current screen, active sessions, running processes, alerts, network connections, usernames, addresses, ports and timestamps where visible.

Do not delay containment merely to gather more evidence where serious harm is continuing.

The decision is a balance between visibility and damage.

Where possible, use a controlled or partial isolation method that restricts harmful communication while preserving monitoring and logging.

This requires specialist incident-response and network judgement.

If immediate disconnection is unavoidable, capture the most significant visible state first and record what could not be preserved.

Document the reason for action, the expected evidential loss and the systems left connected.

Afterwards, preserve central logs, provider records, affected devices and any other evidence of the earlier activity.

Do not infer that the attacker stopped operating simply because visibility ended.
