What is an application log?¶
An application log records what a particular software component chose to observe about its operation and handled activity. It may capture a request, error or result rather than the user's complete real-world action.
Each application defines its vocabulary¶
Records may include accounts, sessions, actions, objects, result codes, endpoints, addresses and times. “Success” can mean request acceptance, while automation, APIs, background processes and administrators can act without direct user input.
Place the component in the wider process¶
Identify application, version and generating component and whether the record is source or dashboard-derived. Obtain event and field definitions and preserve surrounding entries.
Where outcome matters, seek downstream database, file, delivery or transaction evidence. Where identity matters, join authentication, endpoint, network and access-control records.

Read an application entry as one component's observation and verify both final outcome and human operator elsewhere.
