What is a physical-access or door-entry log?¶

A physical-access log records credential, reader, sensor and control decisions at an access point. It usually identifies a credential event, not the person or number of people passing.

Grant, unlock and entry are different¶

Records may include card, fob, mobile credential, PIN or biometric result, assigned holder, reader, door and time. “Granted” can mean lock release without door opening; a sensor can show opening without who entered. Credentials can be loaned, stolen or passed back, and tailgating or other entrances bypass the expected sequence.

Corroborate physical presence¶

Preserve system and credential assignment, permissions, reader location, event meanings, sensor configuration, time basis and drift. Compare CCTV, reception, visitor, alarm, workstation, Wi-Fi, vehicle and witness records.

Report credential use or sensor activity first and name a person only where wider evidence supports presence.
