What is a transaction log?¶

A transaction log records system-defined operations and state changes. “Transaction” can mean a database commit, payment stage or technical operation rather than a completed personal payment.

Status belongs to a processing stage¶

Fields may include transaction ID, account or process, action, object or amount, result and times. Accepted, committed, pending, rolled back, reversed and failed have product-specific meaning. A completed stage can precede later failure, and a rollback removes effect while preserving evidence of attempt.

Reconstruct final state and initiator¶

Obtain status definitions and establish whether entries concern request, processing or outcome. Preserve linked IDs, surrounding stages and later correction or reversal.

Compare account, authentication, application, database and financial records. Automation, APIs and compromised accounts complicate human attribution.
