What should be preserved about a group voice or video call?¶

A group voice or video call may involve several participants joining and leaving at different times.

Evidential caution: that the final participant list shows everyone who took part throughout the call.

What this means¶

A person may join briefly, remain connected without speaking or leave before important discussion occurs.

The call may also include screen sharing, text chat, file sharing, reactions or recording events. Preserve those separately.

Where organisational platforms are involved, audit or meeting records may provide richer participant and activity logs.

In reports, distinguish invitation, connection, duration and active participation.

Where the issue is disputed, compare account, device, recipient and provider records before drawing a conclusion.

What to check or do next¶

• Preserve the call title, group or channel identifier, start and end times, participant account IDs, join and leave events, roles and device information where available.
• Record whether participants were invited, joined voluntarily, were added by another user or entered through a link.
• Capture the call record before the group changes, messages expire or account access is revoked.
• Preserve the source and collection method so another investigator can test the same interpretation.

Evidential limits¶

Presence in the call does not prove that the participant heard, understood or agreed with everything said.

Do not assume the visible roster is complete. Some services show only current participants or display names rather than stable identifiers.
