Does a chat export contain the complete conversation?¶

Not necessarily. An export contains what the service made available to one account through a particular export function and configuration. Its length or tidy structure does not prove full historical coverage.

Define the export envelope¶

Record service and version, exporting account and device, operator, date and time zone, selected conversation or date range, media option, archive structure and whether encrypted backups were involved.

Exports may omit deleted or disappearing messages, edits, reactions, calls, delivery and read states, group changes and system notices. Attachments may be separate, represented by placeholders or unavailable. Another participant or linked device may retain content absent from the exporting account.

Test continuity and other sources¶

Look for missing dates, abrupt subject changes, replies to unseen content, attachment references and sequence gaps. Their absence does not prove completeness.

Compare the package with the live conversation, screenshots, notifications, source-device data, another participant and provider metadata where the issue matters. Describe the result as messages contained in the export unless the method and corroboration support a stronger completeness conclusion.
