What does “pending”, “failed” or “not delivered” mean?¶
These labels describe an incomplete or unconfirmed stage in the service's sending process. They do not, without more, prove recipient rejection, blocking, account deletion or that no communication attempt occurred.
Establish the displayed state and cause¶
Pending commonly means the application is waiting for connectivity or processing. Failed can result from network loss, expired session, account restriction, provider outage, invalid addressing or a device problem. Not delivered usually means the service has not confirmed arrival at its expected destination.
Preserve the precise symbol or wording, message ID, time, service, device condition, connectivity and whether other messages worked. Record error codes or later application updates.
Status can change over time¶
A queued message may transmit when the device reconnects, and a delivery confirmation may arrive after an apparent failure. Screenshots at different times can therefore record different genuine states.
Compare sender-side data with recipient records, provider events and later activity. Report what the application displayed and any established technical cause, leaving unsupported explanations as possibilities rather than conclusions.
The point to remember
Pending, failed and not-delivered are process states; preserve their context and establish the cause before inferring recipient action.
