What does an edited-message marker prove?¶

An edited marker normally proves that the service recorded a modification after the message's initial creation or sending. It establishes that the visible wording may not be original, but not what changed, why or who edited it.

Preserve the change indicators¶

Capture the current message, marker, stable IDs, surrounding conversation, all displayed times and linked-device or session information. Establish whether the service retains edit history, number of changes or only the latest version.

Earlier wording may survive in a notification, screenshot, quoted reply, recipient device or cached linked device. Keep those sources and their capture times separate.

Prove content, editor and intent separately¶

The marker may represent a spelling correction or a material alteration. It does not identify the original text or human editor, particularly where accounts are shared or compromised.

Report that the application displayed the message as edited. A claim that a named person removed specified wording requires evidence of both the earlier version and their control of the editing session. Editing alone does not establish dishonest purpose.
