Does “delete for everyone” remove every copy of a message?¶

No guarantee follows from the label. The function requests service-wide removal from visible chats under platform rules, but screenshots, notifications, forwards, downloads, offline devices, backups and forensic artefacts may remain.

Removal depends on state and timing¶

The recipient may already have read, copied or saved the content. Old application versions, connectivity and account state can prevent a device receiving the removal instruction. An offline device may retain an earlier view until synchronisation.

Exports and organisational retention systems can also preserve content or evidence of the event.

Record what the service actually did¶

Capture the deletion notice, message position, stable IDs, times, participants and nearby conversation. Ask recipients for original screenshots, notification records and saved media; consider device and backup preservation where proportionate.

A deletion marker may prove removal was recorded without revealing wording or the initiating user. Report that the service displayed the item as deleted or unsent, not that it vanished everywhere. Equally, do not claim a recoverable copy must exist without evidence.
