What does membership of a group chat prove?¶

Membership proves that an account was included in the group during an identified period. It does not automatically establish that a person read every message, participated, agreed with the content or endorsed the group's purpose.

Reconstruct historical membership¶

Preserve stable participant and group IDs, join and leave events, invitations, removals, administrator actions, roles and times. A current list omits former members and may include people added after relevant messages.

An account can be added without request, muted, abandoned, shared or compromised. Service rules also determine whether a later member can see earlier history.

Prove activity and awareness separately¶

Look for replies, reactions, mentions, forwards, downloaded attachments, group-specific knowledge and conduct outside the chat. Where a read or delivery state exists, interpret it under the service's rules and identify who controlled the account and device.

Report account membership, access to defined content and personal participation as separate propositions. Presence in the participant list is useful context but cannot carry all three.
