What is a temporary or disposable telephone number?¶
A temporary number is rented, shared or issued for short-term calls, messages or account verification. Its brief or pooled use weakens long-term personal association but does not make it untraceable.

The number may be controlled through a website, application or shared inbox rather than a handset, and reassigned quickly. Preserve service, full number, account verified, precise date and time, provider references and whether allocation was exclusive or pooled.
Current control may belong to an unrelated later user.

Temporary-number providers, payment processors, hosting services and applications may hold registration, transaction, device, browser and IP records. Local browser history, screenshots and receipts can link use to a device.
Compare verification time with the target account's creation, login, recovery and later activity. Report that the number received or supported verification, then establish the person behind the temporary service separately.
