Does a call record prove that the parties spoke?

No. Even an answered or connected call usually establishes activity between accounts, devices or sessions rather than the identities of the people who spoke or what was said.

Connection is not conversation

A call can be accepted by another person, a shared account or a linked computer. It may connect while unattended, remain silent or be disrupted. A short duration can contain speech and a long duration can contain little, so length is context rather than a substitute for content.

Preserve the exact status, duration, call identifier, time and endpoint information from both sides where possible. Establish which device or session handled the event and who had access to it.

Corroborate people and subject matter

Contemporaneous messages, references to the discussion, witness accounts, actions following the call and device-use evidence may identify participants or demonstrate knowledge. An actual recording, if one exists, is a separate evidential item requiring provenance and completeness checks.

Phrase conclusions at the supported level: “the service recorded a connected six-minute call between these accounts” is different from “these two people spoke for six minutes.” The fact of contact does not itself establish agreement, instruction or awareness.

The point to remember

Treat a connected call as evidence of a technical connection, then prove the human participants and conversation through separate corroboration.
