What can an app learn about the device?¶

Depending on design and permissions, an app can collect model, software, language, time zone, network, app version and service-generated device identifiers, plus more sensitive sensor or account data.

Device data can correlate sessions¶

Provider records may link an account to an installation, distinguish devices or show network and location changes. Advertising and installation IDs, network addresses and user-chosen device names have different stability and reliability.

Identify source and lifespan¶

Ask which identifier was recorded, by what event, whether reset or reinstall changes it and how long the provider retains it. Compare it with the seized handset and other accounts. It links technical activity, not automatically a person.
