What is a mobile-device backup?¶

A mobile backup is a time-specific copy of selected data and settings stored in cloud, computer or managed infrastructure for restoration.

It is not a complete handset image¶

Apps may exclude data, while photos or email synchronise separately. Its content depends on settings and last successful run. An older backup may retain deleted material yet omit recent activity.

Restoration changes provenance¶

Restoring can place old content on a replacement handset, so local presence does not prove creation there. Record account, source device, backup date, scope and restore history. Examine a copy separately rather than restoring onto the evidential phone.
