Could evidence exist in the cloud but not on the phone?¶
Yes. Provider and cloud systems may retain content, backups and account events after the handset is reset, replaced, damaged or configured for limited local storage.
Cloud sources can extend the local view¶
Older media, documents and messages may remain online after local removal. Another linked device may upload content never created on the current handset. Providers can also hold trusted-device, login, backup, security and synchronisation records.
Preserve without creating new activity¶
Identify the exact account, service, linked devices and period, and use the authorised preservation or acquisition route where loss is credible. Do not sign in informally: access can create logs, synchronise content or alert the user.
Cloud availability still depends on settings and retention. The opposite divergence - local-only evidence - is equally possible.
Key takeaway
Investigate cloud and provider systems as separate sources even when the handset appears empty, while preserving account state through authorised methods.
