Does a read receipt prove a person read the message?¶

It supports that the service recorded access or viewing, but does not automatically identify the person or prove comprehension.

Receipt behaviour varies¶

Some services trigger when a conversation opens; others require visibility. Linked devices, previews or another account user may generate the status, and users can disable receipts. Identify the platform rule, account, device or session and time.

Attribute access and understanding¶

Possession, unlock and usage records can identify who controlled the relevant session. Replies, reactions, message-specific conduct and surrounding communications may support understanding.

Describe the technical event accurately rather than saying a named person read it where the evidence only records account state.
