Can messages be edited or deleted after sending?¶
Yes. The current conversation may contain a replacement, deletion marker or no trace of content that existed earlier.
Service behaviour determines the visible result¶
An edit may overwrite text or retain version history. Deletion may affect one view or all participants. Offline recipient devices, screenshots, notifications, cache and backups can preserve earlier versions; providers may retain edit or deletion events.
Reconstruct versions and timing¶
Compare sender, recipients, linked devices and provider records using message IDs, edit labels and timestamps. Distinguish deletion from non-delivery or failed synchronisation. Preserve all versions without assuming the examination view is original or complete.
