Can an encrypted messaging provider still hold useful records?¶

Yes. Content encryption can coexist with account, activation, linked-device, network, delivery, security and status records.

Availability is provider-specific¶

Some services retain little; others hold registration, numbers, devices, sessions, network addresses and account changes. These can test claims of compromise, identify another session or establish technical delivery.

Target and qualify the return¶

Specify account ID, period, devices, security event and message status, and consider timely preservation. Network addresses can be shared and device labels user-supplied. The return identifies account or connection activity, not the person controlling it.

Content may instead require endpoint, recipient or backup evidence.
