Does a contact entry identify the real person behind it?¶

No. It records a label attached to an address, number or account by a user, synced address book or platform profile.

Labels express association, not verified identity¶

Names can be nicknames, roles, aliases, jokes or outdated imports. Numbers and accounts can change hands. Identify whether the display came from local contacts, cloud sync or the remote profile.

Verify the underlying identity¶

Use provider account IDs, subscriber records, payments, possession of associated devices, communications and witnesses for the relevant period. Consistent content and call patterns may strengthen the association without turning the label itself into proof.
