What is number porting?¶

Number porting keeps a telephone number while moving service to a different network provider, usually with a new SIM or eSIM relationship.

Historical provider matters¶

The current provider may not hold records for an earlier event. Record port date, old and new networks, credentials and handset associations. The number can remain constant while subscription and device evidence changes.

Porting can be ordinary or abused¶

It accompanies legitimate provider changes but can also feature in takeover. Security alerts, loss of service, replacement credentials and account changes help explain timing. Porting itself does not identify user or intent.
