What is SIM swapping?¶
SIM swapping transfers a number's service to a newly activated SIM or eSIM, legitimately or through unauthorised takeover.
The number stays while control changes¶
The old credential may lose service and calls, texts and verification codes reach the new device. This can enable password resets and account access without changing the public number.
Reconstruct the activation sequence¶
Obtain replacement request, authentication, provider notes, activation time, ICCID/IMSI, IMEI and service interruption. Correlate password resets, device logins, transfers and beneficiary activity before and after. A swap is not automatically fraudulent and subscriber registration does not prove who requested it.
