What is cell-site data?¶

Cell-site data records which mobile-network infrastructure handled a subscription or device event, supporting an area-based location inference.

Connection is not a GPS point¶

Providers may identify site and sector for calls, messages or data. Coverage varies with antennas, terrain, buildings, load, weather and device behaviour, and the phone need not use the nearest site.

Interpret the network event¶

Preserve provider timing, site information and event type and use specialist analysis where the inference matters. Combine with CCTV, travel, Wi-Fi, app location and witnesses. The record locates a device connection within limits and does not identify its carrier.
