Does a photograph on a phone prove the user took it?¶

No. File presence does not establish the capturing device or photographer.

Identify how the image arrived¶

It may be captured locally, messaged, downloaded, cloud-synchronised, restored or copied. Camera folder, metadata, sequence and file history can support capture but need validation. Another person may also have used the handset.

Attribute capture separately¶

Compare device model, surrounding images, app and cloud history, possession, CCTV, location and witnesses. Distinguish capture, receipt, possession and viewing; each is a different proposition.
