What is a screenshot and what can it prove?¶

A screenshot is an image of displayed screen content. It can prove that such a representation existed, but not automatically that the represented event occurred.

Preserve screenshot provenance¶

File metadata, storage path and device records may show local creation or receipt from elsewhere. Interface details, accounts and status indicators provide leads but can be edited or fabricated.

Verify the underlying system event¶

Compare message IDs, transactions, provider logs, account history and recipient records. A payment image does not prove settlement; a message image does not prove sending or delivery.
