What can notifications reveal?¶
They can preserve an app, account, sender, preview or event after the main record disappears, but show presentation to a device rather than automatic human awareness.
Notifications are secondary traces¶
Operating-system, app, wearable, backup or notification-history records may identify posted, updated, dismissed or opened states. Privacy settings can suppress content; grouping can summarise events; an update can replace an earlier alert. The posting time may differ from the underlying event or later synchronisation.
Reconcile with the primary event¶
Compare message or event IDs, sender, content and time with the app database and provider record. Automated balance, calendar, route or recommendation alerts do not prove user action. A surviving preview can still provide a valuable lead when the active item is absent, provided its incomplete and derivative nature is stated.
Key takeaway
Use notifications to establish what an application or system presented to the device, then prove the underlying event and user response separately.
