What is the difference between draft, queued, sent, delivered and read?¶

They are process states from composition to service and recipient activity, and their exact meaning depends on the application and system recording them.

Follow the communication stages¶

A draft has not necessarily left the client. Queued usually awaits submission or connectivity. Sent may mean local hand-off or provider acceptance. Delivered generally records arrival at an account or device, while read records a service-defined display or acknowledgement event - not necessarily human understanding.

Identify source and time for each state¶

Local, provider, recipient and synchronised records can hold different stages and times. A backup may preserve an older state; another linked client may generate a read event. Validate the application's status model and source values where the distinction matters, and do not turn the first visible timestamp into “time sent” by default.
