What is a cross-chain transaction?

A cross-chain transaction is value movement or coordinated activity involving more than one blockchain network.

Avoid the dangerous assumption

The dangerous assumption is that one transaction hash should show the entire movement from the first chain to the last.

Cross-chain activity may use a bridge, exchange, swap service, wrapped token, custodian or specialist protocol.

The value may be locked, burned, transferred, recreated, released or credited on another network.

Cross-chain activity may be legitimate, including trading, access to applications and movement to lower-cost networks.

Its complexity can also be used to frustrate tracing.

When reporting, distinguish directly observed transactions on each chain from the inference that they form one cross-chain movement.
