What should I preserve before contacting a bank or payment provider?¶
Capture the current account, transaction, device and communication state before security action changes it, while not delaying urgent protection of funds or people.
Preserve originals and identifiers¶
Retain statements, exports, receipts, emails, messages, call logs and full application or browser views. Include account or wallet ID, amount, currency, beneficiary, status, all times, references and provider messages. Record source, collector and time obtained.
Capture registered devices, notifications, remote-access tools, browser history, new beneficiaries, password or contact changes and authentication alerts. Navigating a live account can refresh timestamps or trigger controls, so record the visible state first.
Protection and preservation can run together¶
When funds remain at risk, contact may be urgent. Use the preserved identifiers to target retention of account, transaction, authentication, device and session records, and document protective changes that follow.
The point to remember
Preserve the live financial and digital context before intervention, coordinating evidence capture with urgent action when delay would increase harm.
