What card-payment records should investigators request?¶
Target issuer, merchant, processor and acquiring records according to the unresolved question; a statement entry is only a starting index.
Different holders answer different questions¶
Issuer data can provide holder relationship, card or token, authorisation, authentication, risk, status and wallet provisioning. Merchant records cover account, order, billing, fulfilment, communications, staff and CCTV. Processor and acquirer data can add merchant and terminal IDs, gateway, entry mode, settlement and linked references.
Online activity may require checkout, endpoint, IP-related and login data; physical activity needs terminal and promptly preserved CCTV.
Define the event precisely¶
Supply amount, currency, time, descriptor, masked card and all references. Ask for original exports, time bases and field definitions, including failed, reversed or returned events.
Separate movement, merchant action, security and personal attribution so each request has a clear purpose.
The point to remember
Build card enquiries across issuer, merchant, processor and acquirer, targeting each source with exact event identifiers and questions.
