Payments & Banking Technical Explainer

What is an online payment account?

An online payment account is a provider-specific system for sending, receiving, holding or converting value. It is not simply a bank account with identical fields and controls.

Accounts may connect cards, banks, stored balances, handles, merchant tools and wallets. Provider records can include customer verification, IDs, funding sources, transactions, endpoints, sessions, authentication and risk. Internal transfers may never appear as ordinary bank entries.

Registered customer and transaction user can differ through sharing, compromise or several endpoints, and funding can belong to another person.

Trace provider and external layers

Preserve email, phone, user ID, handle, transaction, linked funding, endpoint and status. Establish opening, verification, access and whether value remained internal or moved to banks, cards or merchants.

Report account, funding source, session and human user separately.

The point to remember

Treat an online payment account as its own evidence system and map its funding, access, internal transfers and withdrawals before attributing control.
