What is a peer-to-peer payment?¶
A peer-to-peer payment transfers value between service accounts, often addressed by phone, email, username or handle. Displayed names identify platform records, not necessarily human controllers.
Internal transfer and external funding separate¶
The event may remain within provider ledgers or draw from linked card, bank or stored balance. Records can include stable sender and recipient IDs, handle, amount, time, funding, note, status and transaction, plus access and authentication.
Recipient accounts may be shared, compromised or used as mules, and a payment note is context rather than proof of purpose.
Follow both sides¶
Preserve exact identifiers and establish whether transfer was internal, refunded, reversed or withdrawn externally. Obtain account, endpoint, funding and withdrawal records for both sides as relevant and compare communications and onward value.
The point to remember
Trace peer-to-peer value through sender and recipient accounts, funding source and withdrawal destination before identifying users or purpose.
