What is a linked funding source?

A linked funding source is a card, bank account, stored balance or payment method connected to a wallet. It need not belong to the wallet's registered customer.

Linking creates a provider relationship

The source may be personal, joint, business, family-owned or compromised and can fund automatically or by selection. Records may show masked details, link and removal dates, verification, endpoint, session and the source used per transaction.

Trace setup and use independently

Preserve source ID, underlying details, link event, payment references and verification. Ask when and how it was added, how ownership was checked and which endpoints used it, then reconcile with issuer or bank records.

Successful verification does not prove exclusive ownership or use. Report wallet, funding source and their respective controllers separately.

The point to remember

Trace the funding source apart from the wallet and establish who added, controlled and used each side of the link.
