Payments & Banking Technical Explainer

Could one wallet use several cards or bank accounts?

Yes. A wallet can select among cards, bank accounts, stored balance and other sources, so transactions need not share one funder or owner.

Source selection can vary per event

Personal, business, joint or third-party methods may be linked. The service can use a default, balance first or user selection. Refunds may return to the original source, and failures can affect only one component.

Reconcile each payment route

Preserve wallet transaction, funding-source ID, masked details, amount, time and reference. Obtain link, verification, change and removal history and ask which source funded each event, then compare issuer or bank records.

Multiple sources can be legitimate or compromised. Establish control of wallet and each source rather than treating the account as one pool.

The point to remember

Identify the funding source behind every wallet transaction and attribute the wallet and underlying instrument independently.
