What should be preserved from a payment application?¶
Preserve the account and application context, complete transaction details, linked instruments, active access routes and a record of every action taken. A few screenshots of a summary screen are rarely complete.
Capture volatile context before changing it¶
Record device, application and version, account identifiers, displayed customer details, time and network state. Capture balances, handles, beneficiaries, linked cards or accounts, security alerts, devices and sessions, then open only the transaction detail needed to preserve IDs, status, timestamps, currency, fees and funding.
Refreshing, opening records or switching networks can synchronise data, create logs or notifications, and alter local state. Do not log out, revoke sessions or change credentials without considering preservation and immediate safeguarding needs.
Retain originals and an action log¶
Keep native exports where available and document how they were obtained. Screenshots support context but do not replace provider records or proportionate specialist acquisition.
The point to remember
Preserve payment-app evidence deliberately, record every interaction and obtain provider or specialist records where the live display cannot establish completeness.
