What is a digital voucher?

A digital voucher is electronically issued value or entitlement redeemable for goods, services, credit or another benefit. Delivery identifies a route to the voucher, not necessarily its purchaser or final user.

The entitlement can move without its original message

Vouchers can arrive as codes, barcodes, QR images, links, files or account credit. The purchaser may gift or sell one, and a code can be copied, photographed, forwarded or intercepted.

Issuer records may connect identifier and value to purchase funding, purchaser account, delivery contact, activation, linked account, balance and redemption. Online use can add endpoint, IP-related, order and delivery data.

Reconstruct issue to redemption

Preserve the native voucher, delivery message, email metadata, receipt and surrounding communications without testing unused value. Obtain the issuer's funding, delivery, activation and redemption history.

A voucher visible on an endpoint establishes access at most unless other evidence proves purchase or exclusive control. Report purchase, issue, delivery, transfer and redemption separately.

The point to remember

Treat a digital voucher as transferable electronic value and connect each lifecycle stage to its own records before attributing use.
