What is a seed phrase?¶
A seed phrase is an ordered word sequence that can recreate wallet keys and addresses. It is recovery material, not merely a password, and exposure may permit an outsider to reconstruct the wallet elsewhere.
One phrase can recover a wallet structure¶
Common phrases contain 12, 18 or 24 words and can appear on paper, metal, photographs, notes, password managers, cloud files or messages. Copies may be shared, stolen or retained after practical control changes.
Possession therefore supports potential access but not necessarily wallet creation, exclusive control or use during a historical transaction.
Preserve context and confidentiality¶
Record where and how the phrase was found and related wallet or endpoint evidence. Do not type it into an online service, routine wallet or ordinary notes system; that can disclose it, alter state or endanger live assets.
Specialist methods can identify associated structures safely. Avoid reproducing the complete phrase in routine reports and distinguish possession from proven use and ownership.
The point to remember
Treat a seed phrase as highly sensitive wallet-recovery material and link it to assets only through an authorised specialist process.
