What is the difference between a wallet and an address?¶

A wallet manages keys and transaction activity; an address is one network identifier used to send, receive or reference assets. One visible address may represent only a small part of a wallet.

One wallet can span many identifiers¶

Wallets may generate new addresses for accounts or transactions and support several networks and tokens. An interface can group them under one display. Exchanges may assign customer deposit addresses while retaining the underlying keys themselves.

Different addresses can therefore share control, while similar address formats do not prove the same network or person.

Define what the evidence covers¶

Preserve every complete address with its network and asset, plus wallet application, account, key or seed context and provider records. Establish the technical link among addresses before treating them as one controlled set.

Reports should say whether findings concern an individual address, application, provider account or group of addresses attributed to common control.
