What is a custodial wallet?¶
A custodial wallet is a service where the provider controls private keys and records the customer's entitlement. The customer controls an account interface, not necessarily any specific blockchain address.
Provider ledgers can differ from on-chain movement¶
Exchanges and hosted wallets may pool assets, rotate addresses and move funds operationally. Transfers between customers can be internal ledger entries with no separate blockchain transaction. One provider address may serve many accounts.
Map customer records to blockchain events¶
Obtain customer and verification data, account IDs, endpoints, sessions, deposits, withdrawals, internal transfers and support contacts. Ask the provider to map on-chain hashes and addresses to its internal events and to identify activity that never reached the blockchain.
Registered customer, account operator, ledger entitlement and provider-controlled asset are distinct. An account may be shared or compromised, so access and contextual evidence remain necessary for attribution.
The point to remember
In custodial services, provider records - not the blockchain alone - connect customer accounts to internal balances, deposits and withdrawals.
