What is a transaction hash?

A transaction hash is the principal lookup identifier for a blockchain transaction. It locates a network record; it does not identify a person or guarantee successful completion.

The hash resolves to transaction fields

On the correct network, it can expose addresses, asset, amount, fee, block, time and confirmation or execution status. Providers use hashes to reconcile deposits, withdrawals and support enquiries.

Some networks can show failed, replaced or otherwise unsuccessful activity, and a newly displayed transaction may not yet be final. Token analysis may also require the contract address.

Preserve a reproducible reference

Copy the complete hash exactly with network, asset, contract where relevant, source and observation time. Do not shorten it, retype it from memory or retain only a screenshot; similar-looking hashes can exist across systems.

Use provider, endpoint and contextual records to attribute the exchange customer, wallet user and authoriser.

The point to remember

Preserve the full transaction hash and network to reproduce the blockchain event, then establish its status and users separately.
