What is a deposit address?¶

A deposit address is a network destination supplied for sending an asset into a wallet or service. Receipt on-chain does not necessarily prove a particular customer was credited or controlled the transaction.

Custody changes what the address represents¶

A non-custodial wallet may generate an address under user-held keys. A custodial service controls keys and maps deposits to internal accounts, sometimes using rotating or shared addresses plus a memo or destination tag.

The correct asset on the wrong network can be lost or misinterpreted, and a received transaction can remain pending internally.

Join on-chain receipt to provider credit¶

Preserve exact address, network, asset, memo or tag, customer account, hash and the date the address was displayed. Ask the provider to confirm assignment at the relevant time, credit status and later internal activity.

Report address, provider custody, customer ledger and user separately.
