What should be preserved from an exchange account?¶
Preserve identity and account context, access and security history, funding, trades, internal transfers, deposits and withdrawals - with a record of every interaction.
Capture complete records, not summary screens¶
Record provider, account and user IDs, contacts and verification; linked instruments; assets, networks, fees, addresses, hashes and transaction status; endpoints, sessions, authentication, address books, whitelists, recovery and support messages.
Avoid changing volatile state¶
Opening pages can create logs, while password changes, session revocation or asset movement can alter evidence and risk. Consider legal and safeguarding needs and obtain specialist help for live assets or recovery material.
Use exports and formal provider records for completeness. Screenshots establish context but not the whole account history.
The point to remember
Preserve exchange activity and access context with an action log before making security changes or relying on visible balances.
