What is a cryptocurrency mixer?

A mixer is a service or transaction structure designed to weaken the obvious link between incoming and outgoing cryptocurrency. It complicates tracing; it does not necessarily make value untraceable.

Mixing separates inputs from apparent outputs

Value may be combined, divided, delayed and returned through different amounts or addresses. Central services, smart contracts and collaborative methods leave different evidence. The chain may still record entry and exit even where their precise relationship becomes uncertain.

Preserve the analytical basis

Record hashes, addresses, amounts, timing, fees, service records, communications and the source and confidence of any mixer label. Provider data, wallet artefacts and later exchange deposits may reconnect portions of the route.

Do not assign all outputs to one input or treat a tool label as definitive. Report confirmed interaction separately from ownership, destination and intent.

The point to remember

Treat mixing as an obstacle to simple tracing and preserve enough entry, exit and contextual evidence for specialist analysis.
