What is a blockchain bridge?¶
A bridge coordinates corresponding value across different blockchains. The original asset does not simply travel unchanged in one transaction; separate source- and destination-chain events usually represent the movement.
Bridge design determines the evidence¶
Value may be locked, burned or received on one chain and released, minted or recognised on another through contracts, custodians or liquidity pools. Token contract, address format, amount and time can change.
Join both sides with bridge identifiers¶
Preserve source and destination networks, hashes, addresses, token contracts, amounts, fees, times and any bridge message or reference. Interface and protocol records may support linkage, but similar names or values alone are insufficient.
Report each observed chain event and the evidence connecting them. Funds reaching a bridge contract on the source chain need not mark the end of the trace.
The point to remember
Trace both sides of a bridge and preserve the protocol identifiers that connect the source value to its destination-chain form.
