Why can funds appear to disappear between blockchains?¶
They may enter a bridge, exchange or swap on one chain and emerge as corresponding value on another. The trace changes network and identifiers rather than necessarily ending.
Conversion creates a discontinuous public trail¶
A bridge can lock and release value; an exchange can credit an internal balance and later withdraw on another network; a swap can change the asset first. Fees, rates, pooled balances and delays alter amount and time, while matching symbols may represent different contracts.
Find the connecting service record¶
Preserve source and destination networks, hashes, addresses, contracts, amounts, fees, times and bridge or provider references. Use account records and protocol events to test the relationship.
Do not link transactions from approximate amount and timing alone. State the source event, destination event and strength of the evidence connecting them.
The point to remember
When value vanishes from one chain, identify the conversion mechanism and continue tracing its corresponding destination-chain asset.
