What payment evidence may exist in email or messaging accounts?¶
Communications can supply the instruction, identifiers and explanation surrounding a payment, but neither a sender account nor quoted destination automatically proves control.
Messages connect purpose and transaction¶
Threads may contain invoices, account details, links, QR codes, gift-card codes, wallet addresses, hashes and receipts. Notifications can show logins, recovery, beneficiaries, authorisation, refunds and alerts. Changes in instructions may expose substituted bank or wallet details.
Preserve the full communication record¶
Retain complete threads, participants, times, message IDs, email headers and native attachments rather than cropped screenshots. Consider spoofing, forwarding, compromise and copied third-party details.
Compare the instruction with provider, endpoint and actual transaction records. Report what was requested, what the recipient apparently understood and what value movement is evidenced.
The point to remember
Full communication context can explain payment purpose and deception, but account control and completion need separate proof.
