A privacy or proxy service places an intermediary between the public registration record and the underlying customer.

The practical distinction¶

The public name may be alternative contact details or the service itself. Legitimate users may seek privacy. The intermediary may hold customer, payment, verification, activation and contact records, but may have no role in hosting, content or payments.
