How do I record the exact webpage I viewed?¶

Record the complete URL exactly as it appeared, together with the route, timing, account state and steps taken to reach the page.

The website name alone is not enough. Preserve:

• protocol;
• hostname and subdomain;
• path;
• query parameters;
• item, user or message identifiers; and
• the final destination after any redirect.

Do not shorten the address because part of it appears unnecessary. A parameter or identifier may help a provider locate the relevant record.

Record the route and context¶

Note:

• the original link;
• any redirects;
• date, time and time zone;
• device and browser;
• whether an account was signed in;
• location or language context where relevant; and
• the steps taken to reach the page.

This helps explain why another person may later see different content.

Take screenshots that include the address bar where possible, but preserve the URL separately as text. Handle any sensitive tokens or account information securely.
